Baxter Spectrum IQ Pump-Instructions for Loading Network Configuration File
(Following repair, replacement, or software upgrade of the pump)
Materials Required:
• Computer with connection to hospital wireless network
• USB Actisys Infrared dongle
• Baxter Device Configurator program
• Baxter Gateway URL (In Server Handoff Document)
Pump Network Configuration Instructions
1. Plug in the USB IR dongle into computer. Make sure the light on the dongle lights up green every few seconds when plugged into the computer. This signifies that the dongle is working properly.
2. On the computer, double-click ‘Baxter Device Configurator’, it looks like this:

3. When the larger window opens, please select ‘Gateway Server’ under ‘Saved Alias List’. Make sure ‘Gateway Server’ is highlighted in blue. Note: The images below are just examples, you will not see ‘Cloud’ appear as an option from your screen.

4. Next, select ‘Load.’

5. You will see information pop up in the top two boxes ‘Connection Alias’ and ‘IP address’. Next, click on the ‘Connect’ button. Note: The IP address will be different from the images shown below.

6. Check to see if the message “Connected to gateway” appears on the box below:

7. Please minimize this program and open the link for your Baxter Gateway web portal. (The link can be found at the top of this document if it is not saved on the computer already).
8. Sign into Baxter Spectrum IQ Gateway using your login credentials.
9. Once logged in, click on ‘Device Management’ in the top-left corner of the screen.

10. Input the Serial Number of the pump into the Device SN or Hospital ID or EMR Device ID box. The Serial Number of the pump will be found on the bottom of the pump and will always start with a ‘3’ and is 7 digits long. See example below.

11. Then scroll to the bottom of the filtering column and select ‘Refresh.’

12. If the pump entry appears on the filtered page, you may skip to Step 13. If the pump does not appear on the list, this pump is brand new and will need to be registered for the first time. If this is the case, proceed with Steps 12a-i found below.
a. Anywhere on the ‘Device Management’ menu, select the ‘Register New’ button:

b. Input the Serial Number of the pump in the Serial Number * box:

c. Input the Phillips tag number on the right side of the pump into the Hospital Device ID box:

d. Do not put anything in the EMR Device ID box.
e. Make sure Device Status is set to ‘Active.’

f. Select the only option, ‘Default DL Distribution Group’ under DL Distribution Group *

g. Select the only option, ‘Default Facility’, under Facility *

h. Next, click on Save at the bottom of the page:

i. Proceed to Step 14 from here, skipping over Step 13.
13. Click on the square next to the serial number of the pump you are working with:

14. On the ‘Device Detail’ page of this pump, look for the box near the bottom that says Network Profile. Select the only option under the box called ‘Spectrum IQ Netconfig – Windber’. Note: the image below is just an example and will not actually appear as an option under the Network Profile box.

15. Next, turn on the IV pump.
16. Press options menu.
17. Press 2. Biomed Options
18. Input biomed passcode: 5555, then press OK.
19. Press 5. Network Configuration, then press OK.
20. Press 2. Transfer Network Settings, then press OK.
21. Press receive button.
22. Point USB Infrared dongle at blue infrared sensor on IV pump (located in bottom-left corner)
23. Navigate back to Gateway screen and select Configure at the bottom of the page:

24. After clicking Configure, look for this message in the top-right corner of the computer screen:

25. Back on the pump screen, you should see Network Config Loaded.
26. Press Exit
27. Press 1. Network Status, then press OK.
28. Check to see if the icon in the top-right corner of the screen is green, it may take a few minutes to reach this stage. If the pump is having trouble connecting, move the pump closer to the hallway where the Wi-Fi signal is strongest.
29. Check to see the message “Connected to Server %” appears under Network Status:
30. Once the icon in the top-right turns green, you should one of these two messages: “Receiving from gateway server %” or “Checking integrity %” under the Drug Library Update Status
31. Once you see “Checking Integrity 100%”, the pump will flash a new message across the screen.
32. The message will say COMPLETE, indicating that a new drug library has been activated on the pump. You will be prompted to press OK on the pump.
33. Once you press OK on the pump, press the barcode button on the pump located to the right of the power button and verify that the care areas now appear on the screen.
34. The pump is now ready for patient use, you may power off the pump and/or repeat this process with any remaining pumps that also require re-configuration to the network.
35. After successfully re-configuring pumps to the network, you may close out of the Baxter programs.
