Clinical Cerner Downtime Back-up - MARs & Orders
Medication Administration Records
- Every Patient’s Medication Administration Record regardless of area are saved on an IT Server every 2 hours as a PDF.
- Clinical staff can access the latest pdf’s by opening the OSH Files (S:) drive - Cerner Virtual Printers folder
- Then opening the Downtime MAR folder

- Double click on the latest PDF to open and see every patient’s Medication Administration Record

- Clinicians can search by patient name to print individually or by all.

- Note: pdf’s will only be in Downtime folder for 24 hours.
Patient Orders (if Cerner downtime viewer is not working)
- Clinical areas will virtually print each patient’s orders to a pdf routinely throughout the day in the event that the Cerner downtime viewer is not working.
- Open the patient’s chart per your clinical area’s process

- In the dark blue menu click Orders link (this will be in a different row based on user role in Cerner)
- Click the print icon on the right of the screen above the white spaces.
- Print pop up box appears. Choose the virtual printer associated with the appropriate clinical area:
- Perioperative areas will choose orhovirtualperiop
- ICU and Inpatient areas will choose orhovirtualacutecar
- Click OK button to print (this is how to save as a pdf in Cerner)

The orders will be saved in the S: drive - Cerner Virtual Printers folder in the Perioperative Services folder if orhovirtualperio was chosen OR in the Acute Care folder if orhovirtualacutecar was chosen.
- In the event of Cerner downtime, clinical units can open the appropriate folder from S:\Cerner Virtual Printers and then print off each patient’s last saved orders.
- Note: pdf’s do not indicate Patient name or MRN in title. Each pdf will need to be opened to determine patient name and then printed.
