Multi-Factor Authentication Setup Instructions
To set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) you can follow the instructions listed below. Alternatively, you can click Here to view a video tutorial created by Microsoft. Either set of instructions will work for setting up your MFA.
How to Set Up the Microsoft Authenticator App for Outlook on iOS & Android.
-
Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator App from your app store onto your phone. The App can be seen in the image below.

(Microsoft Authenticator App in iOS App Store & Android Play Store. Also shown is the updated icon you might see instead.)
-
Go to https://aka.ms/MFASetup on your PC.
(Note: If the first link doesn’t work for you try going here instead.)
- Once you reach the site it may prompt you to sign in. If you aren’t signed in, do so. The credentials are your Company Email Address and your Email Password. When you get signed in you should be on the additional security verification page. It should look like the screenshot below.
(The Additional Security Verification Setup Page)
- This is where we will choose your Verification method. Go ahead and click the blue button labeled “Set up Authenticator App”.

(The Set Up Authenticator Button)
- When you click the button, the website will load for a few moments and then you’ll be given a QR code. Open the app that you installed on your Phone.
(The QR code that the Site Creates.)
- When you open the app, you may get a privacy notification. If you do hit “I agree”.

(Click “I Agree.”)
-
This next step varies depending on your Device. The result is the same, but the buttons you press are slightly different.
-
After Agreeing to the Privacy Notification, you should be presented with Three Options. Go ahead and click “Scan a QR Code”
(Click “Scan a QR code” and then move onto step 9.)
-
Alternatively, if your screen looks like the one below, select the blue button labeled “Add Account.” Then select “Work or School Account.” Finally, select “Scan QR Code.”

(Depending on your phone, this may look slightly different, but the option should be labeled the same.)
-
When you select either one of the “Scan QR Code” buttons, you might get a popup about allowing “Authenticator” to access the Camera. Select OK.

(Again, this might look a bit different depending on your device, just give the Authenticator access to your camera.)
-
At this point your Camera will turn on. Now go ahead and scan the QR code from the Microsoft website on your computer.

(This is what the Camera will look like when you’re ready to scan the QR Code.)
-
When you scan the QR Code, you might get a popup about allowing “Authenticator” to send you notifications. If you do, Select Allow.

(Again, just click allow regardless of what this notification looks like.)
- Once you scan it, your Authenticator app will now have an entry for your work email.
(If you see an entry for your work email, you’ve done it correctly.)
- On your computer, click the blue button labeled “Next”
(Click the button circled above.)
-
On your Phone, you should get a notification about approving sign in. Select Approve.
(Click Approve.)
- Once the sign in finishes, your “Additional Security Verification” page should now look like the one shown below.
(The Additional Security Verification Page after setup has been completed.)
- You’ll have to set up a back up verification method. This is so that if you lose your Phone, you won’t be locked out of your Account. If you have a secondary cell phone, you can check “Authentication Phone” otherwise, check “Office Phone”.
(Unless you have multiple cell phones, just select office phone.)
In this example, I’ve selected Office Phone and Put in the IT Helpdesk number.
(Either option will work, just make sure you check the appropriate box and fill out the number.)
- Finally, click the blue Save button at the bottom left.
That’s it! You’re good to go.
